DAY 9 OF 10-10: In honor of my mother-in-law Marla Swartz
(Breast Cancer survivor!)
10 mile run -San Francisco along the water (1:24, high 50's clear and very windy. 5:22am - my watch is out of battery so I ran the same route as yesterday and only know start and stop time)
Hello there readers,
Today's run is in honor of my Mother-in-law, Marla Swartz.
Marla was diagnosed with breast cancer several years ago after she found a small lump in her breast. It was a big shock since there isn't a family history of breast cancer. Luckily, she caught it in time and was able to avoid having to go through chemotherapy. She had several small surgeries to remove the tumor and her lymph-nodes. She also underwent radiation treatment for several weeks and in the end she conquered it! :)
My husband Kyle shared this quote to explain her strength:
"My mom was the strong one in the family when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Everyone around her was very upset and emotional after we heard the news. She was able to be strong and positive and reassured everyone that everything would be ok. I am still amazed that knowing what she was about to go through and how scary that it is that she was the one that showed no fear."
Marla is a true fighter and we are all so very lucky to have her in our lives. She is a remarkable mother, grandmother and wife to Tim.
My run today was very special. My watch died last night so I will be running the same route day 8-10 since I am in San Fran and I know it is exactly 10 miles. It actually is a bit of a soothing experience to not have a watch on and see the time or mile splits so it made the morning even more peaceful. I started in the moonlight and ended with a jaw-dropping sunrise. The sun was rising and the light was pushing through the fog. It made the fog and clouds a wonderful pink color which was so neat considering the color for breast cancer is pink. It was a super windy morning so on the way out it was very challenging and in my face, but I reaped the benefits on the way back with a huge tailwind which again made me think of those fighting through and when they survive life becomes easier again.
Love you so much Marla!
Jax
