Hey there Readers,So Just like that we are 3 weeks away from the big 10-10-10!!
So as much as I like to be a tough cookie, I have to admit to myself every now and again that I am just a human being and my superhuman lifestyle I tend to try to live comes to bite me in the rear sometimes.
This week is a perfect example of just that. Between working like a crazy woman, trying to meet up with folks, trying to do things for others, trying to get my life regulated, trying to recover from traveling every other weekend, recovering from 14 days of being super sick, I am still suffering from some fatigue.
So I had to listen to my body. As much as it pained my confidence and psyche I had to simmer back on my running still and just keep cross training and do what I could do to keep it up.
Although this post feels like a weekend warrior is on the prow, I am hoping that life will settle a little bit more for the next 3 weeks to allow for me to get to a point of confidence to be able to easily succeed. Although I am writing from a hotel room where I am out of town for a whole week and will be in 5 different cities and 4 different events...hmmmm. All you can do is try right!?!?
To boost the positive vibes and confidence some I planned to run my 22 mile run this weekend. I had a restless night on Friday night about conquering my 22 mile run on Saturday and around 4am decided to just get up and go bang it out. I had one rule...never feel like you are breathing past a very comfortable and conversational level. The point of this marathon is just to succeed and be out there for those that I have been running for. I wanted to pick a pace that was easy and fun. I did just that and luckily had perfect weather and it was a very peaceful run. Mile 21 to 22 was the only time I felt a bit of tension in my IT band and otherwise it was very good. I immediately got a massage that afternoon to prevent injury and am going to break up my runs for the next few days to be extra careful. This course was a lot more difficult and hilly than my run will be in Chicago, which is super flat, so that gives me confidence also knowing I took it super easy and on a hilly course and felt good the whole way.
So now for the next 3 weeks the focus in the athletic department of my life will be primarily on this race and making sure to stay healthy.
Cheers!
