Severe Back Spazzz!

"If you have ever experienced a back spasm, you know how painful it can be and all you want to do is lay curled up in a fetal position with your spine pushed out. That is because a spasm is when the muscles close to or next to the spinal cord or the nerve endings contract and it is quite excruciating.

Most of the time a person can continue to move, twist, turn, pull or push or exercise, but after a while the pain will be too severe to move. [this was me] The pain increases after a couple of hours because of bleeding in the torn tendons and muscles causing them to stretch. These types of injuries can be common in sports like weight lifting, golf, basketball, football, and baseball or any sport where pushing, pulling or twisting of the back occurs."

And so it began... the story of Tuesday am...spazzz attack to the max...

It was excruciating to say the least. I couldn't move on my own and felt helpless. As a independent person and do it yourself attitude most of the time this was extremely hard.

On Day one, 10 hours in and 4 doctors visits later, we finally had some muscle relaxants and pain killers. Sad part...pain killers did diddly.

And so the set back begins. Yet, like my coach said, a set back is way better to happen now in mid December than later in March or April.

And so now we go from 18+ hours of training a week to almost nada. It was hard to sit there and think that I felt great and training was settling fine and now I need assistance to do anything what so ever. Poor Kyle.

Good thing is 5 days out I can almost stand up straight and went on the elliptical for 30' with no pain.

Thanks to people like Heather North at In Motion Rehabilitation I should be back at it in no time. Here is a pic of me getting dry needle therapy.

So what is on deck now: massage, heat, stretching, walking, elliptical, pool time, and recovery. Hopefully a week of this and I will be back at 100%

Cross your fingers as I have some big goals to catch next year and I am not letting this get me down.
